X-cape Outdoors Hunting Videos Pro Staff

Dr. James Vance is a new generation hunter. Born in Bluefield, WV, but mostly raised in northern Virginia, he did not have the privilege of a hunting heritage. Growing up the son of a minister, James has moved several times in his life. At age 15 he was moved to southwest Virginia where he went on his first hunt ever.  Doe fever got the best of him and he left the woods without meat, but with the burning desire to complete the experience.  He killed his first deer (a three point buck) three years later with a single shot H&R .30-30.  He has been hooked on hunting ever since.  Throughout high school and college, James continued to spend as much time in the woods as possible. Most of his hunting was done alone since none of his family hunted at the time. His first hunting partner was his girlfriend (now wife) Aranda.  Aranda is James’ videographer.  After 10 years of college he graduated with his Ph.D. in mathematics from Virginia Tech in 2006.  He is currently a professor at a small college in southwest Virginia where he teaches math and conducts mathematical biology research.  Twelve years after taking his first deer, the antlers of that three-pointer are still on his wall and the .30-30 now has a position of honor in his office. Due to his passion, James has hunted in multiple states and has become an avid bow hunter. He considers himself a new generation hunter because, instead of learning from Jack O’Connor, Fred Bear, and their contemporaries, he is learning from Gary Bogner, Jim Shockey, Mark Drury, and Terry Drury. His hunting knowledge was gained through trial and error as well as reading multiplied dozens of magazines and books and watching hundreds of hunting videos.  His long-term hunting goal is to take all 28 North American big game species (the North American Super Slam) with a bow on camera.

Garry Fuller

Garry Fuller was born in the state of Michigan in 1965, and was introduced to the thrill of the outdoors by his father. Garry's family moved to a small Appalachian Virginia town in the summer of 1973. The abundance of fish and game only spurred greater interest in living the dream life. Great hunters like Fred Bear and Jack O'Connor fueled Garry's passion through the books and magazines he read. Never idle, Garry fashioned a bow from a wild cherry tree at the age of twelve. His first arrows were cattails with turkey feathers. Big game for this young man consisted mostly of rabbit and groundhog. Garry's father rewarded his son's zeal with a Fred Bear bow and arrow kit for his 14th birthday.

Since those formative years, Garry has taken many species with a bow: whitetail deer, black bear, turkey, water buffalo, seven species of sheep and all kinds of exotics.  His passion has always been whitetail deer, Garry has ten bucks to his credit that would score over Pope and Young minimum, all taken in the wild under fair chase conditions. His passion is to collect all the deer species of North America and capture them all on film to share with others his love for bow hunting.

David Coldwell

David “Fletch” Coldwell is a lifelong hunter, and took his first whitetail deer at the age of 12. He has hunted Alaska 11 times, (and can't wait to go again), Africa, and bow hunted in  over 20 different states in the USA.  Dave is a well-rounded sportsman and enjoys bow hunting (his favorite), skeet, trap and sporting clays, reloading, tournament bass fishing, fly fishing and saltwater angling. Dave still has the #1 Desert Mule Deer in the Safari Club International Bow hunting Record Book and has five other top ten entries all with a bow.  At 48 years of age, Dave’s most memorable hunt ever was guiding a totally blind friend and aiming for him while he took a trophy class Texas Dall sheep with a conventional compound bow with a 32 yard heart shot.

Dave is currently Vice President/ Sales and Marketing of Grim Reaper Broadheads. He was previously  National Sales and Marketing Manager of Ben Pearson Archery and McPherson Pro Shop Series of bows.
He was also Event Director and sponsor liaison with American Shooters Association, worked as a manufacturers rep for Outtech, Inc. and worked for Safari Club International where he developed new SCI chapters and conducted annual chapter fundraisers.

Dennis Patterson

Dennis Patterson was born in Concordia, Kansas in 1965.  His family moved to Virginia in 1969 where he currently resides.  Dennis started hunting with BB guns at the age of 8 and then at 10 bought his first 15 lb recurve bow at local department store. Dennis began reading every archery hunting magazine he could find and became a very proficient self-taught bow hunter.  He bagged his first whitetail at the age of 22 which continued to fuel his desire for bow hunting.  Dennis has continued archery hunting and now has three Pope and Young record book bucks to his credit.

Dennis loves hunting, but even more enjoyment has come from helping his three daughters hone their archery skills.  The two youngest daughters shoot for fun, but his oldest daughter has taken a deer every season since she was ten.

Becoming an X-cape Outdoors pro-staffer has been a dream come true for Dennis that has provided him unique hunting adventures.   Since joining X-cape Outdoors, Dennis has taken many trophies on camera including three Pope and Young class whitetails, fallow deer, wild boar, Barbarous sheep, Corsican rams, and many other types of wildlife.  He has also discovered that he loves filming big game and wildlife almost as much as hunting.

William Graham was born an raised in Tazwell, Virginia and started hunting at the age of 12. He likes all kinds of hunting and especially whitetail deer, turkey and bear. In the off season, he keeps his skills keen shooting 3-D archery tournaments, and even hunts ground hogs with archery tackle!! Now that is hard.

William has taken many deer and gobblers with bow and muzzleloader,  and loves to share his hunting tips with friends and viewers.  He gets real enjoyment from helping others become better hunters and sportsmen. His number one fan is his 17 year old son whom he loves to hunt with.  Together they have take several whitetail deer and look forward to a life of hunting adventures.
